“What a splendid night that was –
Royal British Legion Farnborough’s
90th Anniversary Celebration”
This is how The Mayor of Rushmoor, Cllr Alex Walsh, decribed
the evening in his BLOG. He went on to say the following:
Royal British Legion Farnborough’s RBL 90
Celebration provided the “once-in-a-lifetime
never-to-be-forgotten occasion” promised in the
programme
The Mayoress and I were piped in by the Highland Piper
(Every Guest was presented with a Souvenir Medallion)
The evening started fittingly with the Standards
being marched in and a welcome by Aldershot
MP Gerald Howarth, who paid tribute to the
tremendous work of RBL in providing welfare
support for the armed forces.
After a Singalong led by entertainer Diane Moore,
RBL Farnborough
President Lou Pozzo
carried out the cake
cutting ceremony
Then, we were delighted with the lovely rendition by soloist Hanna Curtis
of the commemorative song, especially written for the RBL 90 Celebration
by 14-year-old Reece Fitzgerald
The Old Basing RBL Corps of Drums came in
with a spectacular display of luminescent
drumming in the dark
There followed a presentation to Mercy Chapman
for her exceptional efforts in fundraising for RBL
Farnborough
The Highland Piper then re-appeared in the hall and piped to RBL President
Lou Pozzo for Quaich - a traditional Scottish farewell drink of a dram of
whisky in a quaich, which is a shell-like shallow cup
The Highland Piper and Aldershot MP
Gerald Howarth then had the honour
of drinking their whisky from the
Quaich
What a warming way to round off a splendid night,
which also raised £567.00 for the very worthy cause of the Poppy Appeal
